AVIAN ARK comprises of 60 hand turned wooden flasks, carved from locally sourced Scottish wood, sequioa oak, cedar, pine ash and sycamore,. Each flask form depicts a particular Scottish coastline feature or location including towns, rivers, firths, isles and hills, embossed into the contoured wooden surface.

The AVIAN ARK installation was shown at the SSA Annual Show at the RSA Galleries on the Mound in Edinburgh, 22.11.24-11.12.24.

The ARK holds all the birds currently on the Red List of endangered bird species. Birds such as the Golden Oriole previously on the Red List are now neither breeding or nor visitors in the British Isles. The missing birds are listed on the one broken bottle wooden shard of the Avian Ark. Globally the Narrow-beaked Curlew was formally declared instinct in November 24.

The AVIAN ARK wooden flask form represents the archetypal global fizzy drinkls bottle disposed of in the environment as a symbol of our collective destructiveness. WIth rising sea levels due to global warming and climate change AVIAN ARK is primed and ready to sail...
